DVC Commercial Roofing Digital SEO Specialist Q&A
5 Minutes with Sandra: DVC Roofing Digital SEO Specialist

Behind every successful commercial roofing project is a team of people working across different areas of the business to help everything run smoothly. While our teams deliver projects on site, there is also a team behind the scenes helping to build the DVC Roofing brand and connect with customers.
In this edition of our DVC Roofing Team Q&A, we sit down with Sandra, our Digital SEO Specialist, to learn more about her journey into the roofing industry, the challenges of starting in a completely new sector, and what she has learned along the way.
We discuss what a typical day looks like in SEO, how she adapted to learning commercial roofing, what she enjoys most about her role, and her advice for anyone starting a career in an unfamiliar industry.
1. What does your role as SEO Digital Specialist at DVC Roofing involve on a day-to-day basis?
My role covers a variety of areas, which is one of the things I enjoy most. No two days are ever the same. One day I could be working on SEO improvements, website updates, or analysing performance data, while the next I could be creating content, writing project case studies, or working with the team to showcase the work we deliver.
A big part of my role is understanding what makes DVC Roofing different and communicating effectively online. To do that, I’ve had to develop a strong understanding of the industry and the expertise behind every project we complete.
2. Coming from university into the commercial roofing industry, what was it like starting a role in an industry you knew very little about?
It was definitely a challenge at first, but also a really exciting opportunity. Before joining DVC Roofing, my knowledge of commercial roofing was very limited. I understood the basics, but I had no idea how much technical detail, planning, and expertise goes into delivering successful roofing projects.
One of the biggest learning curves was understanding the terminology. Terms like single ply membranes, liquid waterproofing, and roof refurbishments, etc were completely new to me.
However, I quickly realised that to market a business effectively, you need to understand the industry you are working in. Learning about roofing has allowed me to create better content and communicate the value behind the work we do.
3. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when first joining DVC Roofing, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge was building my industry knowledge. Coming from a marketing background, I understood digital strategy, but commercial roofing was a completely new area for me.
The best way I overcame this was by asking questions, listening to colleagues, and taking the time to understand how different parts of the business work together.
Everyone at DVC Roofing has been incredibly supportive and willing to share their knowledge. I’ve learned that you don’t need to know everything straight away, being curious and open to learning is just as important.
4. How did you go about learning the commercial roofing industry and developing your knowledge of the sector?
A lot of it has come from time speaking with different teams, researching our services and learning about completed projects. My role means I need to understand not just what we offer, but why it matters. The more knowledge I gain, the better I can showcase the expertise and quality behind DVC Roofing’s work.
5. What do you enjoy most about your role as a Digital SEO Specialist?
What I enjoy most is that no two days are the same. There’s always something new to work on, whether it’s improving website performance, analysing data, or finding new opportunities to increase visibility.
I also enjoy creating content and showcasing the projects we deliver, helping to tell the story of DVC Roofing and the expertise behind our work. Working in the roofing industry has also given me a real appreciation for the knowledge and skill that goes into every project.
6. What advice would you give to someone starting a career in an industry completely new to them?
My advice would be to embrace the learning process and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Starting somewhere unfamiliar can feel daunting, but it’s also one of the best ways to grow!
Take the time to learn from the people around you, stay curious, and don’t expect to know everything immediately. Commercial roofing was a completely new world for me. Now, it’s an industry I’m continuing to learn from every day, and I’m excited to keep developing my skills and knowledge at DVC Roofing.
