DVC Replaced a Storm-Damaged Commercial Roof

Commercial Roof Replacement for NTS

Following severe storm damage at NTS’ Brompton facility, DVC Commercial Roofing was appointed to deliver a complete commercial roof replacement across occupied commercial premises while carefully managing safety, compliance, and operational continuity.

The existing roofing system had suffered extensive weather-related deterioration, leaving sections of the building vulnerable to water ingress and further structural damage.

What initially appeared to be a straightforward roof replacement quickly developed into a more complex commercial recovery project after asbestos-containing materials were identified within the existing roof build-up.

Working alongside licensed asbestos removal specialists, DVC developed a phased roofing strategy that allowed the project to proceed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to day-to-day site operations.

The Challenge

The Brompton site presented several technical and logistical challenges from the outset:

  • Severe storm conditions had compromised large areas of the flat roofing system, creating immediate concerns around weather protection, internal water penetration, and long-term asset deterioration.
  • As part of the initial roof investigation, asbestos-containing cap sheets were discovered within the existing system.
  • This introduced an additional layer of compliance and safety management that required close coordination between specialist contractors and strict adherence to removal procedures.
  • all roofing activities needed to be carefully phased to ensure continued access, minimise disruption to tenants and staff, and maintain a safe working environment across the site.

The project required more than simply replacing a damaged roof. It demanded a fully managed commercial roofing solution that balanced safety, compliance, weather protection, and programme efficiency under challenging conditions.

Roof Investigation & Planning

Before work commenced, DVC Roofing carried out a detailed roof inspection to identify the extent of the storm damage and evaluate the condition of the existing roofing structure.

Following the discovery of asbestos-containing materials, a collaborative plan was developed alongside licensed asbestos removal contractors to ensure safe strip-out procedures and compliant waste management throughout the project.

The roofing specification was carefully selected to provide long-term durability, improved weather resistance, and reliable performance for the commercial premises.

DVC recommended a high-performance Lancastria roofing system designed to withstand ongoing exposure to severe weather conditions while delivering long-term waterproofing protection.

A phased installation programme was then developed to maintain operational continuity across the occupied building while ensuring each section of the roof remained fully protected during the replacement process.

The Roofing Solution

The project began with the controlled removal of the failed roofing system, and the safe coordination of asbestos removal works in accordance with current health and safety regulations.

Once the roof deck had been fully prepared, DVC installed a new high-performance flat roofing system incorporating upgraded insulation and a durable Lancastria specification.

The system was designed to improve waterproofing performance while enhancing the long-term resilience of the building envelope.

Particular attention was given to detailing around roof penetrations, edges, drainage points, and vulnerable junctions to eliminate future weak points within the roofing system.

Throughout the installation, temporary weather protection measures were implemented to safeguard the occupied premises and prevent disruption to internal operations.

Roof Installation Management

Due to the nature of the occupied commercial environment, careful site management played a critical role in the successful delivery of the project.

DVC coordinated works closely with the client and specialist contractors to ensure all phases of the programme were completed safely and efficiently.

Roofing activities were sequenced to minimise operational disruption while maintaining safe access routes for building users throughout the duration of the project.

Health and safety remained a key priority at every stage. Strict site controls, asbestos management procedures, and ongoing communication ensured the works progressed smoothly while maintaining full compliance with current regulations.

Despite the complexity of the project and the additional challenges presented by weather exposure and asbestos coordination, the roofing replacement was delivered within programme expectations and to a high standard of workmanship.

The Outcome

The completed roofing system successfully restored full weather protection to the Brompton facility while significantly improving the long-term reliability and performance of the building.

Through careful planning, specialist coordination, and high-quality installation, DVC delivered a commercial roofing solution that resolved storm damage and reduced long-term roofing risks.

The new Lancastria roofing system now provides durable waterproofing protection, enhanced resilience against severe weather conditions, and improved confidence for the client moving forward.

Most importantly, the project was completed while allowing the premises to remain operational throughout the works.

Avoiding unnecessary disruption to business activities and ensuring a smooth transition from damaged roofing system to fully protected commercial asset.

This project highlights DVC Commercial Roofing’s ability to manage complex commercial roofing challenges involving storm damage, compliance-sensitive materials, and occupied environments while delivering safe, efficient, and long-lasting roofing solutions.
