Project Overview:
DVC Commercial Roofing Contractors successfully completed a three-phase commercial roofing refurbishment project at Whitechapel C of E Primary School as part of the Kirklees Council Framework Agreement.
The Project was delivered over three-year period and involved the refurbishment of approximately 1,900m² of existing roofing. The final phase was completed in late August 2025.
As an experienced commercial roofing contractor, DVC Roofing was responsible for delivering the roofing works across multiple phases while carefully coordinating activities around school’s day-to-day operations.
The Challenge:
The project presented several considerations due to the size and phased nature of the works, as well as the need to carry out elements of the project while the school remained occupied.
Working within an active school environment required additional care and attention to minimise disruption and reduce risk to pupils, staff and other occupants.
This roof refurbishment project needed to be carefully planned and managed throughout each phase, with site activities coordinated to maintain a safe environment while allowing the roofing refurbishment to progress efficiently.
The Roofing Solution:
A recovery board was fitted over the existing roof, providing a suitable substrate for the new waterproofing system. This was followed by the installation of two layers of high-performance reinforced bitumen membranes supplied by Moy Materials.
As part of the wider commercial roofing refurbishment, DVC Roofing also replaced rooflights helping to renew key elements of the existing roof system as part of the overall scheme.

Working in an Occupied School:
A key aspect of this commercial roofing project was the requirement for some works to take place during term time.
DVC Roofing team understood the importance of maintaining a safe environment for pupils’ staff and visitors throughout the works. Additional care was therefore taken when planning and carrying out sites’ activities, with consideration given to the school’s ongoing operations.
The phased approach allowed the works to be carefully coordinated over the three-year programme while maintaining appropriate safety measures around the occupied areas of the school.
Successful Project:
The three-phase roofing refurbishment was successfully delivered as part of the Kirklees Council Framework Agreement, with the final phase completed in August.
